KITeGG - Making AI tangible and comprehensible (BMBF funded research project)

2022 Mar

Since December 2021, HfG Schwäbisch Gmünd is part of the four-year BMBF project on design and artificial intelligence. The research project “Making AI Tangible and Comprehensible: Connecting Technology and Society Through Design” (KITeGG - KI greifbar machen und begreifen: Technologie und Gesellschaft verbinden durch Gestaltung) aims to develop teaching concepts related to the topics of “Creative Machine Learning” and “Design Futuring” at the HfG Schwäbisch Gmünd.

The overarching objective of the project consortium is to establish a strong network of design departments and universities (HS Mainz, KISD Köln, HfG Offenbach, HS Trier and HfG Schwäbisch Gmünd) in order to sustainably anchor the teaching of AI topics and methods in the entire field of design. The project pursues the goal of integrating the teaching of AI methods into the education and training of designers, so that they are able to use these methods reflectively as materials and tools of design. As “designers of the future” they should have knowledge of current and future relevant technologies as well as profound technical knowledge and the ability to systematically consider user contexts as well as ethical and legal issues.
